City Sites, Caves & Cable Cars in Kuala Lumpur

Experience an all-encompassing journey as you explore top attractions in and around Kuala Lumpur — including ancient cave temples, KL Tower & the historic downtown. Plus, ride a cable car to a hilltop entertainment resort for some family-friendly fun.

About Your Trip

Explore the historic and the modern as you journey through Malaysia’s “Garden City of Lights” during 2 fascinating full-day tours. Your first outing kicks off at Istana Negara, Malaysia’s former national palace and now the Royal Museum. Next, stop at the Kuala Lumpur Tower observation deck, where you’ll marvel at spectacular, 360-degree city views. In the city center, visit Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square) with its historic buildings and iconic flagpole. Then, you’re off to Kuala Lumpur City Gallery — also located in the square — to check out photos, paintings and an impressive, large-scaled model of the city. You’ll also have an opportunity to take photos in front of the 88-floor Petronas Twin Towers, the world’s tallest twin structures. End your day with a hands-on workshop, diving into the local culture as you learn the art of batik making — you can even keep your handmade piece as a souvenir!

But the fun doesn’t stop there. The following day, you’ll be transported to the mystical, magical Batu Caves. These alluring caves and temples — not to mention a giant statue of Lord Murugan — are built into a limestone hill and are rumored to be close to 400 million years old. From there, you’ll hop aboard a cable car, said to be the longest in Southeast Asia, and soar over the rainforest to Genting Highlands. At this entertainment resort, you’ll have plenty of time to stroll the theme park, casino and shopping venues.

What we love:
• Dataran Merdeka is home to one of the world’s tallest flagpoles at 328 feet (100 meters), along with the beautiful Victoria Fountain and St. Mary’s Cathedral.
• The Kuala Lumpur City Gallery is a modern museum set in a colonial-era building built more than 100 years ago.
• To maximize your enjoyment, download the DreamTrips™ app to access DreamTrips Local — then earn points on dining, entertainment, spa experiences & more at select spots recommended by DreamTrippers just like you!

This trip will close by December 28.

Destination

Old and new collide in Malaysia’s capital city of Kuala Lumpur. Metal high-rises tower over colorful markets. Hawkers peddle their wares on the steps of high-end shopping malls and modern restaurants. Malaysian tigers prowl the dense, exotic jungles just outside the city, and equally exotic islands are just a boat ride away.

Known as “KL” by its residents, Kuala Lumpur boasts an impressive array of sightseeing attractions, including the nearly 1,483-foot-tall (452-meter-tall) Petronas Twin Towers, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the National Mosque of Malaysia. The cuisine is highly influenced by both Indian and Chinese flavors, though much of the street food reflects Javanese, Arabian, Thai, Sumatran and Japanese.
